Open eGov

Open eGov is open source software based on Plone, a web Content Management System, which runs the web site for the City of Newport News, Virginia. The project won the 2008 Havlick Award for Innovation. The software for Linux or Windows and all related documentation are available as free downloads. Open eGov is member in PloneGov.org, an international community of more than 50 government organizations contributing enhancements to eGov software based on Plone. We will explore the collaboration within PloneGov by focusing on joint initiatives between Newport News and the Belgian localities of CommunesPlone. The session will present features available for Internet and Intranet functionality and the different models of acquisition, implementation, hosting and support. Tools for project governance and transparency are provided in the Intranet version of the software, such as Project Portfolio Manager and Project Request and Approval system.
